Scrap tin-plated materials offer an opportunity to separate tin from valuable metals such using a proprietary process that creates value from a waste. As part of our metals resource recovery services, we separate a variety of metals including:
- Tin-coated copper
- Tin-coated brass
- Tin-coated scrap
Processing
Scrap tin-plated materials from a variety of manufacturing applications are mixed with acidic and/or caustic processing solutions in rotary mixers to chemically strip the tin from the base copper alloy. Finished products from the de-tinning process include base copper/copper alloy metal and a tin-containing complex called “tin shot.” Metal containing sludge can be added to the “tin shot” to develop a customer specific blend of metals in the “tin shot.”
